Oil Tank Inspection

FUEL AND OIL TANK INSPECTION SERVICE OVERVIEW

Fuel and Oil Tank Inspections

The results of an oil leak from even the smallest of tanks can prove to be costly on a financial and environmental level, fuel and oil tank inspection can minimise the risk of this occurring, thus helping you to protect your home or business.

Financially there is the potential for large fines and clean up costs following an oil spill, not to mention the cost of replacing the oil that has been lost from the tank. Environmentally, the costs can be far more substantial, with water courses being contaminated and wildlife lost.

Fuel and oil tank inspection should be carried out at least annually, by a competent person who can advise on remedial measures that can be taken to prevent a spill should a fault be discovered.

An oil tank inspection carried out by one of our OFTEC registered technicians will incude a full fire and environmental risk assessment, giving you peace of mind that you have met your obligations under the prevention of pollution guidelines and building regulations. Our technician can then advise you of any remedial action required, and offer you a no obligation quote for any works required.

SERVICE FAQS

  • Why should get my oil tank inspected, it looks fine?

Oil tanks are often left in the corner of the garden and forgotten about. When exposed to the elements, materials such as steel can rust, and plastic become brittle. Poor installation such as leaving the base of the tank un-supported can put tremendous amounts of pressure on a tank, which combined with weathering, can cause tanks to leak. Having your oil tank inspected won’t guarantee that a leak doesn’t occur, but it will substantially reduce the risk.

  • What are the consequences of an oil tank leak?

The costs of cleaning up an oil leak can be substantial, both from a financial and environmental perspective. The cost to excavate and remediate a garden can run into the many thousands of pounds, with this becoming even more severe if the tank is located near to the house. Fines for deliberately ignoring a leaking tank can be extremely severe, with local wildlife often paying with their lives when water courses become contaminated.

  • Does the person inspecting the oil tank have to repair it?

Not at all. When our engineers perform a tank inspection, they will indicate on the report any remedial work required in order to prevent a leak or fire. Our engineer will then forward you a quotation to carry out the required work, whilst leaving you plenty of opportunity to gather additional quotes. If we are competitive, you simply give us the order, and we’ll carry out the work. We simply suggest that if any work is recommended, it should be completed by an OFTEC registered engineer to ensure the risks to your tank are minimal.
