  • How long does it take to remove an oil tank?

This really depends on the size of the tank and the location. If the tank is accessible with a lorry mounted crane, the process can be completed in as little as a couple of hours. If the tank is located inside a building, it could take longer as the cleaning and cutting process would need to be conducted on site.

  • How much does it cost to remove a fuel or oil tank?

This really depends on what type of tank you have, what grade of oil it has held and where it is positioned. Bunded diesel tanks may well hold a re-sale value which can be credited against the cost, where as heavy fuel oil tanks can often require heating and extensive cleaning which will impact on cost. Discussing your requirements directly with an engineer can immediately give you an indication on the scope of the work required.

  • What happens to the fuel in my tank when it is cleaned?

Discovering you have a contamination problem in your diesel tank doesn’t mean that you are going to lose your stock of diesel. There are numerous situations that can arise from contamination in your tank, the majority of which can be fixed with a tank clean. The ideal situation would be for you to use your stock down as far as possible so that the tank bottoms can be pumped into IBC’s for the duration of the tank clean. If this isn’t possible, we can bring in a temporary holding tank to transfer your fuel. Once the tank has been cleaned, any remaining fuel can be transferred back into the tank, either by pumping directly in, or by passing it through our mobile centrifuge in order to polish it first.

  • Is cleaning a domestic oil tank a big job?

Not really. The majority of cases can be solved by simply inserting a probe to the bottom of the tank and drawing off water and sludge. As the oil sits on top of the water, by removing everything underneath the oil, it allows the oil to fall below the draw off point and keep the system clean. This may be a short term solution and keep the system clean for another few years, however if you have an old single skinned tank, it may just serve to give you enough time to make a decision on the future of your tank. A full clean of the tank can be more costly, however, if for instance you have a 5 year old bunded tank, it can bring the insides back to their original condition.
