The end of 2015 and beginning of 2106 were supposed to begin with a short break for the team before getting back to business as usual on the 4th of January. Unfortunately that plan was disrupted on boxing day when our waste transfer station in Kirkstall, Leeds, was severely flooded. It took until the 28th of December to really gain access to the buildings, assess the extent of the damage and begin the clean up.
Being a waste transfer station there was the obvious concern of any fuel or oil entering the water course as a result, thankfully due to our continued work to ensure our storage facility is adequately contained, there was no damage to waste tanks and no pollutants were released.
Sadly the damage to the other parts of the business was extensive, with our office, canteen and wash room facilities being completely ruined, with extensive damage to vehicles and equipment in the garages being caused. The good news however is that we were able to use the holiday period to call on some willing volunteers to help with the clear up, thus ensuring that we were ready for business on January 4th.
Now a couple of weeks on, the office block is still drying out prior to re-building work getting under way, we have temporary offices up and running and the garages are ship shape again. As ever we are committed to providing a first class service to our customers, and a little (or a lot in this case) water can’t keep us down.
