From a single pump island with no canopy, to multiple pumps, kiosk, car wash and associated fuel tank installations, we can decommission your filling station forecourt safely and efficiently, using our own in house team.

Following an initial enquiry, a member of our team will discuss your forecourt decommissioning requirements and request some basic information from you such as:

  • The number of, and nominal capacities of the tanks on site.
  • The quantity and grades of product to be disposed of.
  • A picture of the chambers leading to the tank lids.
  • Pictures of any buildings and structures such as canopies or car washes.

With that information, we can then produce a budget quotation to allow you time to consider your options. We can then arrange to visit your site.

We’ll then gather any additional information on your tanks in order to issue you a firm quotation and begin to formulate a safe system of works.

SERVICE FAQs

Forecourts across the county vary is size and complexity, with some comprising of just two tanks and some with multiple tanks, canopy and kiosk. The majority of forecourts can be decommissioned within two weeks, with many being completed far sooner than that. However these timescales do not include for any remediation works that may be required in order to satisfy planning applications. When issuing a quotation, we will be able to give you a firm timescale in which we expect the work to be completed.

Our primary objective with any forecourt decommission is to ensure the site is made safe as quickly as possible. Our first priority would be to clean and degas any fuel tanks on site, to allow other works to be conducted without the risk of fire or explosion from fuel storage. Once the tanks are under gas free certification, we would aim to clear the site of obstructions e.g. canopies, kiosks or car washes, thus allowing sufficient room to excavate the underground tanks. With the tanks removed from the ground, that clears the way for any required soil samples to be obtained with a view to eventually backfilling and leaving the site safe and ready for re-development.

If you purchase an old filling station and have no records of the site, it is recommended that you contact your local petroleum licensing authority. Any site storing petrol must be licensed and records kept of the tanks on site, therefore you should be able to obtain some information. Depending on your location, petroleum licensing can either fall under local Trading Standards or the Fire Service. Our membership of the APEA (Association for Petroleum and Explosives Administration) allows us to access the database of all local petroleum authorities. Upon making an enquiry with us, we can assist in finding the right person to talk to.
